Solar / Light Powered Watches
Solar or light powered watches are those which are powered by light. The term 'Solar' is slightly misleading in that these watches don't necessarily require light from the sun to function, but will use any light source, including indoor light. The technology in these watches has advanced greatly over the past few years to where most solar watches now have long power reserves (up to 5 years for some Citizen Eco-Drive models) so that even when the watch is in the dark, it will conintue to keep time and run for a considerable amount of time. For these solar watches, you will never need to have the battery changed. This is not only convenient, but highly desirable especially for diving watches, where seal replacement and pressure testing is required when changing the battery.
